Aegean Candle

Sea salt · Fig · Cypress

£22

Olive groves and whitewash. Salt drying on skin, fig trees, cypress standing against a hard blue sky, marble underfoot. The Aegean is the restrained collection, and it is here partly as counterweight: five shelves of warm resin would turn the whole range amber, and this one never will.

The soap is the cleanest thing we make — olive, bergamot and sea salt, with no vanillin at all, so it stays the palest bar in the range. The candle is green and resinous without being warm: fig, cypress, sea salt. The diffuser — bergamot, lemon, cypress — is simply the freshest thing in the shop.

The pattern is the meander, the Greek key: one continuous line folding back on itself in right angles. Unlike every other pattern in the range it is a border, not a field — so it runs as a single band around plain, fluted bodies, matte white or bone, with no metallic finish anywhere. Everything else gets brass; the Aegean doesn't, and that is the point.
