The idea
Alum & Ash makes soap, candles and home fragrance organised around regional collections. Each one takes a place with a real craft and fragrance tradition and produces a coordinated set — soap, candle, reed diffuser — where the smell and the pattern come from the same source.
That is the whole premise. A Marrakesh bar smells of the spice market and carries the geometry of its zellige tilework. The scent and the pattern are not two decisions; they are one, because they come from one place. It is not a novelty, and it is not a generic artisan candle with a nice label. It is a specific place, rendered in something you can wash with and burn.
The colour matters too. Real zellige, girih and Iznik work is not muted — it is intense, saturated colour on white plaster. We have taken that intensity straight rather than sanding it into a safe, sepia version. As you move between collections on this site, the whole thing changes colour with you. That is deliberate: browsing should feel like walking between rooms.

How they’re made
Bars are made in small batches, cut from a loaf mould and pressed with a stamp carrying the collection’s pattern. Candles are poured in a soy blend; diffusers are filled by hand. Everything is made in Britain in batches small enough that colour and scent are checked by eye and nose, not by a spec sheet.
